Selected Works of World Chinese Literature in 2005

Author: Gu Yuanqing (Editor)
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-01-01
Features: The compilation of this book differs from last year's in that it includes more micro-fiction and wuxia fiction in terms of literary style. In terms of geographical scope, it is the first time that works by Chinese writers from South Korea, Brunei, Poland, and the Czech Republic have been included. Among them, Xu Shixu from South Korea, though not ethnically Chinese, has a "Tang person's face" and has long been committed to writing in Chinese. His works belong to Chinese-language literature, and including his excellent pieces is justified by the very essence of the title "World Chinese Language Literary Works Annual Selection." The name of this book also aims to embrace diversity and benefit the Chinese-language literary world. This book not only features the intersection of "Chinese" and "Chinese-language," but also the intersection of "Chinese Taiwan writers" and "overseas Chinese writers," such as Zhang Xiguo and Shi Shuqing, who are both Taiwanese writers and American-Chinese writers. As for the works of Brunei writers, they have long been outside the scope of attention from Chinese mainland scholars. Since the Sixth International Conference on Southeast Asian Chinese Literature was held at Xiamen University in the summer of 2004, many Chinese scholars have begun to focus on the Chinese-language literature of this country, and thus several works have been specially selected for this edition. Additionally, the number of Chinese-language works from Japan and Germany has also increased compared to the previous year. "Selected Chinese Language Literary Works from Around the World in 2005" serves as a literary bridge, spanning five continents and four oceans, crossing the two shores and three regions, and attempting to open up a new realm of literary reading for readers.
