Features: Language is an important tool for communication and an essential part of human culture. Language education should not only cultivate students' skills but also shape their character. It is about letting students "spiritually mature." The influence of literary works, especially classic Chinese and foreign literature, is immeasurable. A book can benefit a person for a lifetime and even inspire the growth of an entire generation. The basic spirit of the Ministry of Education's "Full-time Compulsory Education Chinese Curriculum Standards" and "General High School Chinese Curriculum Standards" (referred to as the "New Curriculum Standards") emphasizes cultivating new generations of citizens with good humanities literacy and scientific literacy, as well as innovative spirit, cooperative awareness, and an open perspective. The "New Curriculum Standards" place great importance on reading and appreciation for primary and secondary school students and clearly specify the required reading volume for different stages. In line with the spirit and requirements of the "New Curriculum Standards", our press launched the first and second series of "New Curriculum Standards Essential Reading Series" in 2003 and 2004, totaling 92 titles. They have been well-received by teachers and students in primary and secondary schools. Since the publication of the series, readers have provided us with many constructive suggestions, for which we express our sincere gratitude! To better enhance this series, we have invited experts from the education, academia, and publishing industries for multiple consultations. After gathering feedback from all sectors, we have revised and updated the "New Curriculum Standards Essential Reading Series" based on the latest trends in primary and secondary school Chinese teaching. The newly launched series has the following features:
