Features: There are currently 15 species of cranes in the world, and Black-necked Crane is one of the latest scientifically discovered species (1876). Black-necked Crane is one of the endemic species of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the only crane species that lives entirely on the plateau among the 15 species. In the hundred years after its scientific discovery and naming, due to its high-altitude, remote distribution, as well as the relatively isolated social conditions of the region from the outside world during a certain period in its special historical background, further scientific research on it has always been very limited. As a result, it has become one of the most internationally concerned endangered species. We have been engaged in the research and conservation of Black-necked Crane since the early 1980s. Over the years, our fieldwork has covered the main distribution provinces and autonomous regions of Black-necked Crane, such as Gansu, Qinghai, Tibet, Sichuan, and Guizhou. This book is carefully compiled on the basis of summarizing our years of field research on Black-necked Crane and participating in the promotion of its natural conservation, further consulting and organizing domestic and international research results and latest materials on Black-necked Crane.
