Features: The ancient Kingdom of Kucha was located in the western region of China, now within the territory of Xinjiang, at a crucial hub of the ancient Silk Road. It is home to numerous Buddhist grottoes dating from the 4th to the 11th centuries, making it China's earliest group of grottoes. The murals in the Kucha grottoes are exceptionally vibrant and dazzling, incorporating influences from various cultures such as the Central Plains, India, Persia, Egypt, and Greece. Young painter Wang Zheng spent nine years meditating and copying the murals in the grottoes, gaining rich rewards. The works in this book are selected from over 600 of his copies, each representing the stylistic characteristics of different periods of Kucha murals. The entire book is presented in three languages: Chinese, English, and Japanese.
