Features: This book is a revised version of the original General Physics (2nd Edition), which was originally written for teacher training colleges. The revision preserves the original book's features while incorporating additional content based on the requirements for secondary school physics teachers outlined in the 2003 Ministry of Education's General Physics Curriculum Standards for high schools, as well as the recent development of mass higher education. The revision aligns with the teaching standards for general physics at normal universities and science and engineering colleges, expanding on the core content while adding supplementary material. This makes the book suitable for shorter undergraduate courses while still catering to the needs of teacher training colleges. The book is divided into five volumes: Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, Optics, and Fundamentals of Quantum Physics. This is the fourth volume, Optics, which includes ten chapters: Introduction, Fundamentals of Geometrical Optics, Eye Vision and Color Vision, Common Optical Instruments, Interference of Light, Diffraction of Light, Polarization of Light, Wave Theory of Imaging, Absorption, Scattering, and Dispersion of Light, Quantum Nature of Light, and Laser and Holography. Most chapters end with discussion questions and exercises. This book can serve as a textbook for physics majors at normal universities, science and engineering colleges, and teacher training institutions. Removing chapters marked with and does not affect the integrity of the knowledge structure, making it suitable for use in teacher training colleges, education colleges, correspondence courses, and as a reference for secondary school teachers.
