Publishing Date: 1979-08-01
Features: After the initial release of this book, it received enthusiastic attention from numerous calligraphy enthusiasts and experts, who provided valuable suggestions for improvement. Based on these suggestions, revisions were made. This book is a comparative calligraphy manual featuring multiple scripts, designed for beginners to reference and practice. The 2,000 commonly used characters included were selected from the 1,500-character list distributed by the Central People's Government Education Department in 1952, as well as frequently used single characters from newspapers, magazines, and other publications. Due to the limited number of characters, some commonly used ones will be included in the sequel, which is currently in progress and scheduled for release in the near future. This book covers five scripts: Regular Script (Kai), Clerical Script (Lì), Running Script (Xíng), Cursive Script (Cǎo), and Seal Script (Zhuàn). To facilitate an understanding of the differences between traditional and simplified characters, a column for small regular script traditional characters is included for reference. The single characters selected in this book are arranged according to the number of strokes: those with fewer strokes come first, and those with more strokes follow. Within the same stroke count, characters are arranged in order of stroke sequence. Strokes are categorized into five types, in the following order: horizontal (), vertical (), left-falling (), dot (), and hook ().
