Features: On the winding lotus pond, stretching far and wide are the lush leaves. The leaves rise high from the water, like the skirts of graceful dancers. Among the layers of leaves, scattered are some white flowers, some blooming gracefully, some shyly in bud. They are like pearls scattered in the sky, like stars in the blue sky, like beautiful women fresh from a bath. When the breeze passes, it carries faint fragrances, like the distant, indistinct singing from a high-rise. At this moment, the leaves and flowers tremble slightly, like lightning, instantly reaching the other side of the lotus pond. The leaves were originally crowded together, shoulder to shoulder. Under the leaves is a gentle stream, covering everything, hiding all colors; yet the leaves appear even more elegant.

Tsinghua Garden – in a broader sense, the campus of Tsinghua University, is located in the lush landscape garden area in the northwest suburbs of Beijing. It developed and evolved from several Qing Dynasty imperial gardens. Surrounding Tsinghua Garden are numerous higher education institutions and famous historical sites. The garden is beautiful, with clear waters and lush trees ("Shui Mu Tsing Hua"). Throughout the campus, traces of cultural and historical significance, buildings in various styles, and sculptures are scattered everywhere. It is also where many renowned scholars in humanities and science have worked and continue to work. For a long time, Tsinghua Garden has nurtured the noble aspirations and character of generations of Tsinghua students with its rich cultural spirit and natural beauty. Tsinghua Garden is not just a garden of scenery but also a garden of spirit and culture.
This book is the newly revised and expanded edition of A Chronicle of Tsinghua Garden, published in 1988. Based on the original entries, it has been adjusted, updated, and supplemented, further enriching its cultural and historical value. This book serves as an excellent textbook for generations of Tsinghua alumni, current students, middle and high school students and young people aspiring to study at Tsinghua, especially new students and young faculty members, to understand the history and environment of their school. For visitors and tourists from home and abroad who temporarily visit Tsinghua campus, it is a detailed guidebook.
