The Modern Emergence of Chinese Comedy Concepts

Publish Date: 2005-12-01
Features: The term "comedy concept" generally has two basic forms of expression: one is the theoretical form, primarily referring to a rational understanding of fundamental comedy issues through a series of concepts, categories, propositions, and their systems of thought; the other is the artistic form, primarily referring to an understanding and perspective on fundamental comedy issues that is implied within the work and expressed through the creation of artistic images. Although the scope of this book's examination is mainly limited to the former, the author has also made certain exploratory attempts regarding the latter. In terms of the theoretical form, it includes two main levels: one is the aesthetic level, and the other is the theatrical level. Of course, the distinction between the two is not absolute, especially in the historical stage of our research, they are often difficult to differentiate. Due to the extremely weak foundation of related research, the writing of this book has faced considerable difficulties in both excavating and organizing original materials and discovering and constructing theoretical frameworks, yet it has made arduous yet effective efforts. This has given the book a certain originality.
