Features: The Complete Tang Anthology compiled during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty collected all Tang Dynasty writings in one volume, totaling 20,025 pieces. Lu Xinran, one of the four great book collectors of the late Qing Dynasty, was the first to supplement this book with his works Tang Anthology Supplement and Tang Anthology Continuation Supplement, adding more than 3,000 pieces. In the 20th century, the number of newly unearthed Tang Dynasty documents was extremely abundant, creating a new situation for Tang Dynasty literature and history research both at home and abroad. Previously, only stone inscriptions and tomb epitaphs had been systematically compiled, including the Compendium of Tang Tomb Epigraphs and Continuation of the Compendium of Tang Tomb Epigraphs, edited by Zhou Shaoliang, and the Supplement to the Complete Tang Anthology, edited by Wu Gang, which collected approximately 5,500 Tang Dynasty writings, primarily tomb epitaphs. Chen Shangjun’s new book is the first comprehensive review and collation of Tang Dynasty writings from existing classics and newly discovered documents. The collection spans the Four Divisions of Literature, Dunhuang manuscripts, stone inscriptions, overseas Chinese classics, and Buddhist and Taoist scriptures. In addition to the aforementioned works, Chen Shangjun compiled approximately 7,000 Tang Dynasty writings, involving more than 2,600 authors. The entire book contains nearly 4 million words and can be considered a relatively comprehensive review of the newly discovered Tang Dynasty documents of the 20th century, covering all aspects of Tang Dynasty research.
