Author: [British] Bertrand Russell, translated by Yuan Lijun

Publishing Date: 2005-05-01
Features: Our library has always attached great importance to the translation of academic classics from all over the world. Since the 1950s, we have been dedicated to translating and publishing classical academic works before the birth of Marxism, while appropriately introducing representative works of contemporary, well-established schools. Thanks to the support of scholars and translators, we have published over 300 titles in the past three decades. We firmly believe that only by enriching our minds with the entire wealth of human knowledge can we build a modern socialist society. The intellectual treasures and academic value contained in these books are well-known to scholars and need no elaboration. These translations were previously published as separate volumes, making it difficult to see the bigger picture. Compiling them into a series allows them to complement each other and present a grand panorama, making them more convenient for study and reference while facilitating cultural accumulation. For this purpose, we published 360+ classic works in nine volumes from 1981 to 2000. We are now continuing to compile the tenth volume, and by the end of 2004, we had published 400 titles. Moving forward, we will continue to publish these works in the classic series based on the accumulation of individual titles. Due to the use of original typesetting, the translations could not be thoroughly proofread, and the formatting is not entirely uniform. All prefaces and postfaces from the original translations have been retained as they were, with minor corrections or deletions made to some. The reading community fully understands the need to approach these works with a correct analytical attitude, extracting their useful essence while discarding outdated dross, and this need requires no further explanation from us. We hope that scholars and translators at home and abroad will provide criticism and suggestions to help us improve this series. This book is a major work by the renowned British philosopher Bertrand Russell. It consists of ten articles published by Russell between 1901 and 1950:
(1) Relations and Logic;
(2) On Denotation;
(3) A Type-theoretic Foundation for the Logic of Mathematics;
(4) On the Relation between Universals and Particulars;
(5) On the Nature of Intuitive Knowledge;
(6) The Philosophy of Logical Atomism;
(7) On Propositions: What Propositions Are and How They Generate Meaning;
(8) Logical Atomism;
(9) On Time;
(10) Logical Positivism.
This is a scholarly monograph of considerable academic value and serves as a valuable reference for studying the development of Russell's philosophical thought and contemporary analytic philosophy.
