Features: Human society has entered a new century and has also welcomed the era of the knowledge economy. The knowledge economy calls for high-quality talents, who should possess a solid scientific and cultural foundation, healthy physical and psychological qualities, as well as strong thinking, practical, and innovative abilities. The purpose of school education is to educate people. Today, the concept of "everything for student development" has increasingly become the soul of modern education. How can we tap into students' potential and guide them to develop healthy and distinctive personal strengths? How can we promote comprehensive quality education with a focus on cultivating innovative spirit? How can we lay a solid foundation for the growth of high-quality talents in the basic education stage? Every educator with a sense of responsibility is seriously thinking and exploring these questions. The school that compiled this series of books is an active practitioner in this great transformation. Hunan Normal University High School, a prestigious institution with nearly a century of history in Hunan, seized the historical opportunity of reform and opening-up, adhering to the guiding principle of "three" (facing the world, facing the future, and facing the 21st century), implementing a school philosophy that emphasizes reform as the driving force and education as the foundation. It established the educational philosophy of "human-centered, recognizing differences, fostering individuality, and focusing on the future" for its curriculum reform, striving to build a new high school curriculum system and promote the in-depth implementation of quality education. Guided by the teaching philosophy of "student-centered, teacher-led, and thinking-focused," the school has achieved its educational goals of "holistic development, comprehensive development, specialized development, and harmonious development," leading to the overall improvement of students' quality and the cultivation of their unique strengths. Over the years, the school's high school graduation exams and college entrance examination (Gaokao) scores have consistently ranked among the top in Hunan Province. Since 1985, it has recommended over 900 outstanding graduates for admission to prestigious national universities such as Peking University and Tsinghua University without examination, and another 38 students have been admitted to the special programs for gifted students at universities like the University of Science and Technology of China. In international science Olympiads, the school's students have won 17 gold medals and 6 silver medals in disciplines such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, bringing great honor to the country and earning the school the reputation of a "gold medal cradle"! The school's experience in implementing comprehensive quality education has been extensively reported in People's Education.
Comprehensive quality education is the main channel for cultivating students' innovative spirit, and it is primarily reflected in subject classroom teaching. To better exchange insights on subject-based education with fellow educators and to provide students with a comprehensive training textbook that aligns with both the current teaching syllabus and textbooks as well as the innovative thinking and intellectual development inspired by the Olympic competition methodology, with the strong support of Longmen Bookstore, we have organized experienced teachers from Hunan Normal University High School and coaches from international Olympiads to compile this series of books titled Synchronous Learning and Expansion (2-in-1), covering different learning stages and multiple subjects. The goal is to integrate synchronous guidance with competition training, enabling students to clarify key points, overcome difficulties, deepen their understanding and application of basic knowledge and skills, accumulate problem-solving techniques, master subject methodologies, and learn to generalize and synthesize knowledge. They should be able to connect, extend, transfer, and reorganize knowledge to solve new problems in unfamiliar contexts, thereby genuinely improving their subject learning abilities and innovative awareness.
This series is not only aimed at top students in key schools as an introductory and popular reading material for competitions but also serves as an effective tool for students in ordinary schools for synchronous learning, systematic review, and exam preparation. The combination of "synchronous learning" and "competition training" is the unique feature of this book, and for us, it is also a new attempt.
