Features: Tom Kelley has made significant contributions to innovative science with his book Experimentation. He uses case studies from various industries to clearly demonstrate how new technologies fundamentally change the way companies and researchers innovate. Kelley's experimental principles provide a roadmap for future fast, effective, and highly innovative product development. – Lawrence D. Burns, Vice President of Research and Development Planning, General Motors
Experimentation is the most important and practical book I have ever read on innovation. Kelley skillfully explains how new technologies and rapid learning enhance product development efficiency and speed. – Clayton M. Christensen, Professor at Harvard Business School, author of The Innovator's Dilemma
Kelley explains how new technologies profoundly impact corporate experimentation and change the management perception of what innovation means. A company that fails to design, organize, and effectively manage its innovation process as he suggests will pay a price—not only will it waste money but also reduce creativity. – Peter B., Senior Vice President of Science and Technology at Pfizer Inc.
Kelley offers unique insights into a crucial yet often overlooked factor in competitive success—experimentation. This highly influential and illustrative book shows us how companies should leverage new technologies, such as advanced computer simulation techniques, to significantly improve experimental efficiency and save valuable time in the challenging and risky process of developing new products from ideas to success. – Dr. Henry C. Kelly, President of the U.S. Association for the Advancement of Science
If you want to learn how experimentation and experimental strategies can make a company more innovative and productive, please read Experimentation. – Steven J. Sinofsky, Senior Vice President of the Office Business Division at Microsoft
Stephen H. Kelley is an Associate Professor in the Technology and Executive Management Department at Harvard Business School. He has been teaching at the school since 1995. His research and writings primarily focus on technological innovation, product development, and the management of experimental strategies. A significant part of his work involves studying the impact of rapidly evolving new technologies (e.g., computer simulation and rapid prototyping) on the innovation economy structure, particularly on R&D performance and management. Before 1995, Kelley conducted research on medical electronics devices and semiconductor assembly industries, later studying McKinsey & Company in Germany.
Kelley has authored or co-authored more than 30 academic papers, articles, case studies, and commentaries, published in leading journals such as California Management Review, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Management Science, Research Strategies, American Scientist, and Strategic Management.
Professor Kelley holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
