Features: Over four years, the author followed the path of Kafka and Kundera, traversing Prague's castles, squares, churches, galleries, and theaters. Experiencing the charm of literature and art, admiring architectural beauty, and embracing the romance everywhere, he immersed himself in the thoughts and wisdom of Czech philosophers, artists, and intellectuals. Through real observations and experiences, he presented Prague's urban allure and the cultural and artistic spirit of the Czech nation in a vivid, illustrated format.
One does not fall in love with a city for no reason, nor does one write a book about it without cause. Prague is the story I want to tell. Only when I open its chapters do my memories become clear, and I reveal the longing hidden in my heart. The ancient castles, the cobblestone streets of the Old Town, the forests in the suburbs, the lights of the bars, the water birds flying over the Vltava River, the bells of St. Vitus Cathedral, my Czech friends, and colleagues and students at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague—all these are unforgettable. Prague is world-famous for its beauty and romance. This city preserves perfect ancient architecture, earning it the title of the "Museum of World Architecture." It is the only city in Europe that has not been destroyed by war. Throughout history, Prague has produced many renowned writers and composers, including Ha?ek, Kafka, Kundera, Smetana, and Dvo?ák, among others. Undoubtedly, Prague has been a major artistic hub in European history.
Contemporary artist Qu Yan lived in Prague for four years. As a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, he has a unique perspective and profound experience of the city. This book is far from a mere sightseeing tour—it is an artist's experience of Prague's spirit, reflections on life, cultural contemplations, and artistic pursuits. It is also an artist's inner journey in a foreign land.
From the artist's perspective and viewpoint, the book narrates Prague's architecture, history, culture, music, photography, contemporary art, cultural exchanges, and the spirit of intellectuals, accompanied by over 100 images. The photographs include the author's life in Prague, his own architectural landscapes, as well as works by Prague photographers and artists.
Currently, there is no systematic book in China that introduces Prague, especially one that delves into its spirit and art. With the growing influence of Eastern European intellectuals and writers on Chinese readers, it becomes even more necessary to understand their spiritual background. This book provides a comprehensive perspective on the history and culture, as well as the thoughts and spirit of the Czech Republic and Prague.
