Features: The World of You and Me provides detailed case studies and analysis during its compilation process, along with corresponding suggestions. His mother appeared helpless. She continued, "Later, he went to elementary school, but often cried and ran home, saying a classmate had beaten him again and asking us to take action against the person who did it. We tried to find them several times, but after getting tired of it, we stopped looking. However, the child refused, insisting we help him, or else he would cry endlessly at home. We taught him never to fight with classmates outside, but he was still frequently bullied, crying his way home. Then we said, 'You can’t hit others, but if someone hits you, you must fight back.' The child got excited and said, 'Yes, I’ll get revenge tomorrow! I hate him so much.' So the next day, he didn’t come back on time. Later, someone returned with a 'wounded soldier' covered in blood. It was said a 'brick war' had broken out, and both sides were evenly matched. If he hadn’t fought with other children, how much easier would life be for us?"
His studies were also lackluster. After school, he would drop his backpack and run out to play. Now, with schools reducing the workload, students no longer have homework. How can a child not do homework and still improve his grades? What if he doesn’t get into university in the future? I wanted to give him some practice questions, but he said, 'You’re not a teacher,' and ran off. I hope he’d study more, but he just plays.
He doesn’t read books, but he always asks for books. We picked out some books we thought would help his studies, but he chose books we believed were useless for his learning. How can a student read leisure books? But the books we chose, he wouldn’t read, saying he didn’t like them. This child is too much trouble!
"Our child is also very careless. During exams, he would get math problems wrong, but when we asked him about the test paper at home, he could answer them correctly. Why can’t he get them right during the exam? Isn’t that strange?" His father chimed in from the side. "We only have one son, and I love him very much. When he was in elementary school, I would study with him every day until he got tired and wanted to sleep. But there’s just no way for us two generations to communicate. I was 19 when I went to the countryside, and I was in the same production team as his mother. I didn’t come back until I was 27. Now that I’m in my middle years, I hope my son knows more about that 'revolutionary history.' But even when I listen, it’s just faint. Words can’t replace experiences. As for my 'revolutionary history,' my son just waved his hand and said, 'What’s the big deal? This is the modern era. Why bring up those things anymore?' As for his studies, I thought he was okay in elementary school. We just wanted him to study hard, and didn’t care about anything else. In this society, not getting into university is no good. You say, in this city, can you get by without education? In the countryside, farmers still have a few acres to farm, but in the city, that’s not the case! But ever since he entered middle school, he hasn’t studied properly. He doesn’t hang out with other classmates and spends his days alone, not studying or doing anything. If you say something to him, he’ll argue back. He wasn’t like this before. We don’t know what’s going on in his mind now. Now that the middle school entrance exam is approaching, if he doesn’t get into high school, how much money will it take to get him in? And if he goes to a bad high school, his college prospects will be ruined. Sigh! Everything in our family is fine except for this child’s studies. You say we’re intellectuals, why can’t we teach our own child? Those who get into Harvard, I wonder how their parents taught them. The child says we don’t understand him. Do we really not understand him? He won’t say a word to us, and we can’t even ask him anything. He treats us like enemies, yelling 'trouble' at the slightest word." His father was clearly agitated. Later, I talked to the child again. He said, "In elementary school, my grades were okay. Before exams, they would promise to take me somewhere if I did well, but when I showed them my report card, they’d demand I study at home. And this happened every time, with endless excuses. They often tell me to be trustworthy and keep my word, but what about them?! I can’t take it anymore. In middle school, my grades dropped a bit. They’d scream and shout, and sometimes I’d resist. I know I’m going through puberty, and psychologically, things might be like this. But they don’t understand, and they don’t admit it. They even started isolating me: no TV, no music, no extracurricular entertainment, had to come home on time, even controlled my sleep schedule! I live like a robot, but my grades have stagnated. I know my parents love me, and they care about me the most. For me, they’ve sacrificed and never spared any expense. But they’ve also been my biggest source of growing up stress. I can’t take their methods. No matter what I do, they meddle in everything. Before exams, they tell me not to be so relaxed, and what will happen if I do poorly. When I want to make friends, they force me to hang out with classmates who get good grades. Now, I’ve stopped making friends altogether. Let’s see what they’ll do! My birthday is before the exam, and I wanted to celebrate with a few friends, but halfway through the meal, they called me back, saying it was important to study. How can they understand my heart? Now, there’s more than a year until the exam, and they restrict me so much. They buy me tons of reference books and practice questions, saying only textbook material is important for students. They shouldn’t explore anything outside of studying. But I think society is already diversified. If students still stick to the old rule of 'not caring about the outside world,' that’s just 'ignorant.' But what can I do? They’re my parents. I can only sit at my desk, staring at piles of books and exercises. When I finally find a little time to watch TV or read novels, they’ll immediately appear beside me, saying, 'You’re watching TV again, reading leisure books, and not studying English or your main subjects.' But they themselves are watching TV, and then say, 'Sitting at your desk all day, aren’t you tired?' How can I not be tired? Besides sitting at my desk, what else can I do? We have classes in the morning and afternoon, waking up early and getting off school late. The family an early bedtime, so I don’t even have time to play, not even time to kick a soccer ball. The moment I stop writing, they’ll shout, 'What are you doing?! There are only a few days until the exam. What I can’t stand is that they check under the door every night to see if I’m studying. If they don’t trust me, I’ll just pretend to study for them! At home, when I study, I have to be on high alert, wondering if they’re sneaking a peek! I’m getting more and more annoyed with this home and more and more hateful of them! On weekends, if they’re home, I’ll sit there playing with a pen or reading novels to pass the time. If they’re not home, I’ll turn on the TV all day. But now even weekends aren’t a break. It’s like having a tutor! Honestly, I don’t like tutors!"
"They also always say I’m bad. They compare me to other classmates all the time. Someone got a perfect score, why can’t you get even a little? Someone joined the Youth League in the first grade, and you’re in the second grade and still nothing? Someone got the top grade this semester again! You’re not good at anything. Why were you even born? Just kill me and let them be your parents!"
"Once, I argued with a classmate about something, and when I got home, I told my parents. But they said, 'It must be your fault. Otherwise, why would it happen to you?' From then on, I didn’t want to talk to them anymore."
