Features: The proposition of this article originates from the confusion arising from the fundamental issues of architecture in long-term architectural design practice. How should we appropriately address the building materials and construction techniques of contemporary industrialized production? This article attempts to conduct research through the construction theory to guide us in deeply understanding the construction techniques and artistic characteristics of the industrial era, thereby forming basic principles for architectural design in the industrial age. The article is divided into three parts. The first part is a review of construction theory, including the origin and development of the concept of construction, an overview of contemporary construction theory, and an analysis of several construction issues. The purpose of this part is to establish a basic attitude when researching the construction issues of industrial-era buildings. The second part discusses the development history of construction technology in the industrial era and the impact of technological advancements on construction concepts. The third part focuses on the two main elements of construction issues—“skin” and connection nodes—by summarizing and analyzing a large number of engineering practices to find patterns and principles in the complex architectural phenomena. Construction research is an extremely practical research topic, and research on construction in the industrial era is even more closely related to contemporary architectural practice. In the conclusion of this article, two architectural practice projects are used as examples to comprehensively elaborate on the application of construction principles in the industrial era, further confirming the practical significance of this topic. This book is suitable for architects, environmental art designers, and can also be referenced by students and research institutions in related fields.
