Features: Although more than 10 years have passed, China's agricultural economy has undergone significant changes. Agricultural product supply has shifted from comprehensive shortage to a structural and regional relative surplus in terms of total quantity. Agricultural development has transitioned from labor-intensive to capital- and technology-intensive models. The focus has shifted from maximizing output to pursuing efficiency maximization in both domestic and international markets. Improving agricultural product quality, increasing agricultural income, optimizing agricultural industrial structure, and accelerating the marketization process of agriculture have become key issues to be addressed in agricultural development. Under the market economy system, the allocation of agricultural resources and agricultural structure have continuously been optimized through market competition. Agricultural business organizations and industrial organizations have been continuously improved and innovated along with the development of agricultural marketization. Agricultural management systems have been continuously adjusted, and the legalization of agriculture has been further enhanced. Guided by the theories and ideas of coordinated urban-rural development and sustainable agricultural development, China's agricultural growth, farmer income increase, and rural development have entered a new historical period. Under such development, it is very necessary to compile a new textbook of "Agricultural Economics." In 2002, this textbook was applied for the national "Tenth Five-Year Plan" teaching materials project. In 2003 and 2004, we organized 12 young teachers to participate in the writing of this textbook, conducting multiple discussions and revisions on its system and content. The original 20 chapters were adjusted to 16 chapters, and the content of almost every chapter was rewritten. To maintain the standardization of the textbook, the title of this edition has been changed to "Agricultural Economics." This book serves as the basic textbook for undergraduate majors in agricultural and forestry economic management.
