1. The "China Intellectual Property Yearbook" is a comprehensive reference book that reflects the basic conditions of China's intellectual property industry. Its content primarily covers the previous year's developments. The inaugural issue in 2000 reviewed the establishment and development of China's intellectual property system.
2. This edition is composed of 15 sections: "Color Photos," "Special Articles," "Chronicles," "Intellectual Property Organizations," "People," "Laws and Regulations," "Statistical Data," "Typical Cases," "Cooperation and Exchange," "Publicity, Training, Publications, and Websites," "Project Introductions," "Regional Surveys," "Hot Topics," "Technological Innovation and Intellectual Property Industrialization," and "Appendix."
3. "Color Photos" showcases the care and support of leaders of the Communist Party of China and the state for the intellectual property sector, documenting the activities of key leaders from the China National Intellectual Property Administration, the National Copyright Administration, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the Trademark Administration of the State Administration for Market Regulation, as well as the Supreme People's Court's Intellectual Property Tribunal. It captures historical moments of significant events in the intellectual property field.
4. "Special Articles" features contributions from leaders of administrative departments, judicial institutions, and national ministries, as well as scholars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and universities, reviewing the history of China's intellectual property system and its role in various sectors.
5. "Chronicles" records major events in the establishment of China's intellectual property system over the past 20 years, focusing on patents, trademarks, copyrights, and intellectual property judicial protection.
6. "Intellectual Property Organizations" introduces the structure and responsibilities of administrative departments, contact information for local administrative agencies, the status of judicial institutions, research units, and intellectual property schools or departments established in universities, as well as nationally registered intellectual property associations.
7. "People" features the leadership of administrative and judicial institutions, the boards of national associations, and lists of exemplary collectives and individuals recognized for their contributions to the intellectual property sector. The section also includes brief biographies. Due to space constraints, this edition highlights leaders of administrative and judicial institutions and vice presidents of national associations. In future issues, we will gradually introduce leaders, experts, scholars, and exemplary figures from various departments involved in intellectual property work.
8. "Laws and Regulations" publishes catalogs of intellectual property laws and regulations over the years, as well as the full texts of current major laws. Interpretations by the Supreme People's Court's Intellectual Property Tribunal are listed in the catalog, with full texts only for 2000. To help readers understand the legislative process of the three pillars of intellectual property—trademarks, patents, and copyrights—experts who participated in drafting the Trademark Law, Patent Law, and Copyright Law reflect on their development.
9. "Statistical Data" includes statistics on patent applications and grants, copyright-related work, trademark applications and registrations, and the number of trademark infringement cases in recent years. It also introduces the national situation of trademark infringement cases handled in 2000 and lists recognized by the Trademark Administration from 1989 to 2000. The section also includes the list of plant variety protection for agriculture and forestry, authorized plant varieties, and the registration of computer software in 2000, as well as national judicial protection statistics.
10. "Typical Cases" features recent cases of administrative and judicial protection.
11. "Cooperation and Exchange" introduces recent collaborations and exchanges between the intellectual property sector and international partners.
12. "Publicity, Training, Publications, and Websites" covers the publicity and training efforts in the intellectual property field, primarily reflecting the situation in 2000. It includes intellectual property books published by central Beijing publishers in recent years and domestic and some international intellectual property websites.
13. "Project Introductions" lists the patents awarded gold medals and merit awards by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (including the former China Patent Administration) over six editions.
14. "Regional Surveys" features reports from intellectual property bureaus (or patent offices) in provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions on their intellectual property work in 2000. Due to scope limitations, most reports focus on patents, with only a few regions covering trademarks and copyrights. We plan to address this gap in future issues. Judicial work reflects the intellectual property protection efforts of the Supreme People's Court's Third Civil Tribunal.
15. "Hot Topics" presents the views and insights of experts and scholars on key issues in the intellectual property field.
16. "Technological Innovation and Intellectual Property Industrialization" includes measures and policies for intellectual property industrialization proposed by relevant authorities, as well as experiences and insights from three pilot cities for intellectual property and five large enterprises.
17. "Appendix" lists patent, copyright, and trademark agencies. Notably, a significant number of projects in the National Science and Technology Progress Award applied for patents and obtained intellectual property protection. To provide readers with an understanding of this award, we include the 2000 National Science and Technology Progress Award announced by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The 13 first-prize winners are briefly introduced, while the 167 second-prize winners are listed in full. The appendix also includes international organizations and treaties related to intellectual property, and the editorial team has compiled an index for readers' reference.
