What causes the tips of the limbs to turn white

Patient's question:

Starting from April 2013, it was discovered that upon waking up in the morning, the face and arms would be swollen, and the fingers would turn white upon touching cold water, with the condition improving within a few minutes.

Doctor's answer:

This is a case of mild cold-induced urticaria, which is a transient skin angioedema. In this situation, the local skin tissue is sensitive to cold water. Upon exposure to this cold stimulus, it immediately triggers a reaction, leading to rapid edema, which results in the condition you described. It is an allergic reaction. After warming up, the edema can disappear quickly. This condition requires minimizing exposure to this cold stimulus to effectively avoid it.
