How long do pregnancy marks disappear after childbirth?

Patient's question:

Can pregnancy spots fade on their own? When can the pregnancy spots on the body disappear after giving birth? When I was pregnant, I had a lot of pregnancy spots on my face that wouldn't go away. After giving birth, there wasn't much change either. Later, I still used to cover the spots on my face! I just want to ask, when do pregnancy spots generally disappear on their own?

Doctor's answer:

After getting pregnant, the uterus gradually shrinks, the traction on the abdominal wall skin decreases, while the tensile strength increases but elasticity worsens. The elastic fibers then break, leading to the reappearance of irregular, slightly concave, pale red or purple streaks, which is a natural phenomenon. Currently, there is no medication that can fill stretch marks. It is recommended to apply olive oil to your abdomen and legs and gently massage them. Stretch marks can gradually fade over time. If necessary, laser treatment can be used. Most pregnancy spots are caused by hormonal changes in the body during pregnancy. Do not worry too much. Based on your current condition, they will gradually fade after weaning, but they will never completely disappear.
