How to Treat Chest Fullness and Pain for Quick Results

Patient's question:

My daughter is 6 months old and is still breastfeeding. The day before yesterday in the morning, I suddenly felt pain in my left breast. It felt like there were hard lumps inside my breast. When I touched it with my hand, it was very painful. For the sake of my daughter, it felt a bit better, but there was still a slight pain.

Doctor's answer:

Hello! It's definitely clogged milk. First, use a warm towel to warm compress the area. Don't make it too hot. When your body gets used to this temperature, gradually add hot water. If the breast feels the water has cooled down, it's no longer effective. Alternate between several towels for warm compresses, pressing the hard lump and gently pushing towards the nipple. Don't be lazy, and don't let too much time pass between sessions, otherwise it won't work.
Second, after warming compressing dozens of times, use a breast pump to extract milk from that side.
Third, don't ignore the other side just because it seems fine. After pumping the side with the hard lump, the other side might also become engorged. Make sure to extract all the milk or let the baby finish nursing to prevent clogging.
