Patient's question:
Suffered from symptoms for one week, experiencing external genital itching. Symptoms improved after medication. There is a stinging sensation when wiping with toilet paper after urination. The doctor prescribed ointment for application and administered intravenous metronidazole and fluconazole, which led to improvement. Currently, there is cervical erosion of degree 3, with no abnormal findings observed. The doctor recommended undergoing a LEEP procedure.Doctor's answer:
Cervical erosion is not an indication for LEEP surgery. The current medical perspective no longer considers cervical erosion a disease but rather cervical columnar epithelial ectopia. If the cervical cancer screening (Pap smear or TCT) is normal, treatment may not be necessary. If there is concurrent inflammation, active treatment of the inflammation is sufficient. Your condition appears to be cervical erosion combined with acute vaginal inflammation. Whether to undergo LEEP surgery depends on the presence of cervical lesions. Generally, surgery is only required for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) II. This diagnosis must be confirmed through a pathological diagnosis obtained from a colposcopic biopsy of the cervix.
