Economy and Law is a television program jointly organized by the General Court of the Supreme People's Court and the Economic Channel of China Central Television (CCTV). With the aim of "using cases to speak and promoting the standardized process of China's market economy," the program features cases reviewed and recommended by the Supreme People's Court, showcasing diverse and typical scenarios. Since its launch in 2003, it has received widespread acclaim from audiences and legal professionals. In response to the demands of the audience and legal community, the General Court of the Supreme People's Court and the Economic Channel of CCTV have compiled the program into a series of books—Economy and Law: Using Cases to Teach Law.
The book selects a variety of typical civil cases, divided into four parts: Contract Disputes; Ownership, Tort, Unjust Enrichment, and Unjust Management Disputes; Marriage and Family Disputes; and Special Procedure Cases, totaling 54 categories, along with some administrative and criminal cases. Each case includes a summary of the facts, statements from the plaintiff and defendant, defense opinions from the lawyers of both sides, the court's judgment, as well as comments from legal experts and the presiding judge, along with relevant legal provisions. The selected cases feature intense conflicts and strong storytelling, with clear legal reasoning in judgments, making them suitable for accurate legal education. They serve as an excellent teaching material for popularizing legal knowledge and conducting legal education. Many of the classic cases from judicial practice provide valuable guidance and reference for judges and legal professionals at all levels of the courts.
