The study of the history of science is beneficial to promoting its development. Life science holds an important position in science. Studying the history of life science, both in the past and today, is conducive to learning, grasping, and developing it. Life science is the science that studies living matter. Humans have long been aware of and studied nature, including the study of living matter. Initially, the study of biology was not highly specialized. It was called "Natural History," translated into Chinese as "Biology," which, from an English perspective, implies systematic and faithful narration of natural phenomena, as well as systematic knowledge of "natural phenomena throughout history." Our teaching of life science tends to focus on the narration and introduction of facts while neglecting the development of conceptual thinking, which is not conducive to a comprehensive grasp of the systematic knowledge of life science. The inclusion of the history of life science plays a very important role in overcoming these weaknesses. The main readers of this book are young students. Currently, the study of life science has a tendency to focus solely on knowledge itself while, to some extent, neglecting the source and development of knowledge, which is unfavorable to promoting active and independent thinking. Therefore, we have written this book.
