Features: Dingdian Cat, living on the fringes of human society, is an ordinary person. This shouldn’t be heard by him! He’s quite a bit arrogant, believing he was born to do great things, as if the heavens and earth could only rely on him? He has some disdain for humans. He admires idealists like Van Gogh, but don’t think he can endure hard times. He enjoys a comfortable life even more. Sometimes I wonder if his love for food surpasses his admiration for Van Gogh. Hearing this, he might stretch lazily, yawn, and say, “Shut up, that’s a cat’s talent!” But Dingdian Cat is still Dingdian Cat. He has endless dreams, even if these dreams are shattered time and time again. Dingdian Cat and Buding Dog have all sorts of weaknesses, but they are both kind-hearted, eager to understand the true meaning of life, and pursue ideals, happiness, and joy, though they often end up with disappointment, pain, and awkwardness. In this complex and dangerous world, they struggle to survive. They have laughter, but also worries. Seeing the sunset in the distance, they may feel inexplicably melancholic; seeing a small star in the night sky, their thoughts may wander. But even an ice cream cone is enough to make them forget all their troubles. Since July 2003, I’ve been sketching their daily trivialities on blank paper with drawings. This book is a record of their lives over the past year and a half. I’m happy to have done this for them. They are sensitive animals. Besides me, they don’t let anyone else get involved in this. If I skip a few days and don’t draw, they’ll become strangers to me; if I don’t truly immerse myself in their world, they’ll close that door and won’t let me in.
