What should I do after giving birth to a child and coming to Hong Kong?

Patient's question:

A postpartum woman who has given birth 25 days ago is experiencing red discharge. Is this her menstrual period? If so, is it normal? Additional question: She is currently breastfeeding the child. Thank you.

Doctor's answer:

Lochia is the blood and fluid discharged after childbirth, typically clearing up within three weeks. However, some women may take up to six weeks due to physical weakness. If the discharge continues beyond six weeks, it is referred to as incomplete lochia, most commonly caused by cold stagnation and blood stasis. It is often accompanied by lower back pain, a heavy and cold sensation in the lower abdomen. Poor lochia discharge can affect uterine recovery and, consequently, overall recovery.
For severe cases, medication should be taken under a doctor's guidance, and attention should be paid to maintaining external genital hygiene. Intercourse is prohibited for two months.
