Accelerate the comprehensive utilization and recycling of resources from stages such as resource extraction, production consumption, waste utilization, and social consumption. Actively develop energy and renewable resources. – Government Work Report Premier Wen Jiabao Enterprises, Society, Environment! The concept of the circular economy first originated abroad and, upon being introduced to China, attracted high attention from the government, the business community, and the academic circles. The limited nature of resources, the unlimited demands of human development, the constraints of environmental pollution, and the lack of coordination between economic and social development are the fundamental reasons for the emergence and development of the circular economy. Population growth, resource privatization, and environmental pollution are the three major challenges facing humanity today. Properly addressing these three relationships is key to maintaining human living space, preserving ecological balance, and achieving sustainable development. Meanwhile, the rational utilization of natural resources and the regeneration of materials are the material foundation for ensuring the sustainable development of the economy and society. This is precisely the grand goal pursued by the development of the circular economy.
The circular economy is a model centered on the efficient and circular utilization of resources, adhering to the principles of reduction, reuse, and recycling, and characterized by low consumption, low emissions, and high efficiency. It represents a fundamental transformation of the traditional growth model of "mass production, mass consumption, and mass waste." The circular economy is based on coordinating the relationship between humans and nature, following the laws of material cycles and energy flow in natural ecosystems.
Combining the characteristics of Chinese enterprises, this book focuses on the application of the circular economy. It is divided into nine chapters, where the author attempts to illustrate the issues with a wealth of facts and cases, avoiding theoretical emptiness and dogmatism. The aim is to help enterprises understand the operational patterns and characteristics of the circular economy, establish new concepts of the circular economy, and enhance their capabilities and international competitiveness in this field.
Starting from the general principles of the circular economy, this book analyzes the forms, content, methods, and technologies of corporate circular economy operations, following the process of the circular economy from the source to the end of product production, from input to output, and from internal small cycles within the enterprise to inter-enterprise middle cycles. The goal is to provide practical and referenceable experiences and practices for enterprises.
