Why is the intermittent dark red menstrual blood accompanied by itching?

Patient's question:

Around 10 days before menstruation, intermittent dark red blood appears, not much until menstruation arrives, and there is slight itching in the external genital area. After washing, there are no symptoms, and the vaginal discharge is watery with a yellowish tint.
How should this be treated, and what medication should be taken?
It has been like this for 3 consecutive months. It's not much—stops after menstruation, then happens again next month. It's not anything like uterine cysts~~~ uterine polyps~~~ uterine tumors ???

Doctor's answer:

Hello:
During the mid-cycle, specifically the ovulation period, a temporary decline in estrogen levels causes the endometrium to lose hormonal support, leading to partial endometrial shedding and resulting in regular vaginal bleeding, known as ovulatory bleeding. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is referred to as "intermenstrual bleeding."
Treatment
1. Western medicine treatment: Diethylstilbestrol 0.25–0.5 mg per day, starting 3 days before ovulation and stopping 2–3 days after the bleeding stops.
2. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment: Liuwei Dihuang Wan, Gujing Wan, and Xuefu Zhuyu Wan.
Prevention and Care
1. Pay attention to menstrual and postpartum health care, maintain external genital hygiene, and prevent pelvic infection.
2. Keep a calm mood and avoid excessive stress.
