Is it normal to have dark red in leukorrhea?

Patient's question:

Around 10 days after my monthly period, I have dark red discharge in my leukorrhea, which usually lasts for about 3-5 days. Is this a normal phenomenon?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: The situation you mentioned may be a symptom of ovulatory bleeding. During the mid-cycle, i.e., the ovulation period, a temporary decline in estrogen levels causes the endometrium to lose hormonal support, leading to partial endometrial shedding and regular vaginal bleeding, which is known as ovulatory bleeding. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is referred to as "intermenstrual bleeding."
Treatment
1. Western medicine treatment: Diethylstilbestrol 0.25–0.5 mg per day, starting 3 days before ovulation and stopping 2–3 days after the bleeding stops.
2. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment: Liuwei Dihuang Wan, Gujing Wan, and Xuefu Zhuyu Wan.
Prevention and Care
1. Pay attention to menstrual and postpartum health care, maintain external genital hygiene, and prevent pelvic infection.
2. Keep a calm mood and avoid excessive stress.
