How is it better to treat cervical erosion

Patient's question:

Hello:
The physical examination doctor said there is cervical erosion, with a large area. However, since marriage, sexual activity has been infrequent, and there was no sexual activity during pregnancy. The child is now over a year old, so it is estimated that it should not be too serious. But please ask the doctor, what kind of medicine should be used? Thank you! Is cervical erosion the same as chronic cervical inflammation?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: If cervical erosion is not treated actively, it can lead to erosion. There are many methods for treating cervical erosion, and appropriate choices can be made based on the degree of erosion. The main methods are as follows:
  (1) Medication Treatment: For small erosion areas with superficial inflammation, the following medication treatments can be used:
① 10–20% silver nitrate: Apply locally once a week, with 2–4 applications per course.
② Potassium permanganate: Apply locally after menstruation, and repeat the medication once after 1–2 months. When using these medications, be careful to avoid burning the surrounding vaginal walls. Also, ensure sterilization during medication to prevent reinfection.
  (2) Physical Treatment: Used for larger erosion areas with deeper inflammation.
① Electrocautery: Use a specially designed electrocautery device to burn the erosion tissue, causing it to necrose and fall off. The treatment should reach a certain depth for better results.
② Cryotherapy: Use a specially designed rapid freezing device to freeze, necrose, and detach the diseased tissue on the erosion area. Liquid nitrogen is commonly used as the cryogenic agent, which can lower the temperature of the cryoprobe to -196°C. Apply it to the surface of the cervix to freeze and necrose the erosion tissue, causing it to fall off and allow new squamous epithelial tissue to regenerate. One session is usually sufficient for cure. Generally, there are no adverse reactions, though some patients may experience mild dizziness or lower abdominal pain.
③ Laser Treatment: Most commonly uses a carbon dioxide laser treatment device. Apply the specially designed laser treatment head to the erosion tissue on the cervix, causing it to carbonize, form a scab, and fall off, followed by the growth of new squamous epithelial tissue. One session is usually sufficient for cure. There is no special discomfort during the procedure, and only a small number of patients may experience mild side effects.
