Features: "The New Handbook of Chinese Characters" (Volume 1 and 2) is a foundational textbook for beginners in Chinese characters. It aims to help learners recognize and write approximately 1,200 commonly used Chinese characters and about 2,200 common words composed of these characters, laying a solid foundation for further study of Chinese characters and the Chinese language. Based on the principles of character formation, the book groups characters with the same semantic components into units and explains the radicals. For characters that do not reflect the original principles of character formation, including simplified characters, they are categorized according to their constituent parts. Some characters with unclear original principles of formation, as well as some that are difficult to classify or cannot stand alone, are grouped according to the other characters in the disyllabic words they form. At the end of each unit, there is a "Basic Knowledge" section that briefly explains the fundamental theories of Chinese characters and writing rules, and a "Simplified and Traditional Characters Comparison" section lists the corresponding traditional characters for the simplified characters introduced in the unit.
