What tests should be done if menstrual flow is light?

Patient's question:

Doctor, hello! I have noticed that my menstrual flow has been relatively light over the past three months. My period usually lasts about 5 or 6 days, but it used to last 3 or 4 days with heavier flow. After that, it became very light. Now, it’s only a bit heavy for the first two days, and then it becomes very light, almost nothing by the third day.
Now, every time before my period, I feel a bit dizzy. Additionally, I seem to be experiencing a lack of libido. During sexual activity, I feel uncomfortable, and there is very little discharge. Occasionally, I have mild itching or pain in the vaginal area.
I once had pelvic inflammatory disease and was treated for it. In September, I had an examination, and it was confirmed that it’s no longer an issue. Could it be that the excessive use of antibiotics during treatment caused this? Moreover, I have been experiencing mild pain in the lower left abdomen.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, there are several reasons for a decrease in menstrual flow: endocrine abnormalities, such as abnormal hormone secretion or anovulation; additionally, when the endometrium becomes abnormal, such as endometrial tuberculosis causing endometrial lesions or artificial abortion, scraping the uterine cavity leading to thinning of the endometrium, endometrial adhesion, and so on. Of course, occasional decreases in menstrual flow are often related to excessive mental stress, fatigue, weight loss, malnutrition, and so on. Once a persistent decrease in menstrual flow occurs, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible to diagnose the cause of the reduced menstrual flow.
