Collodi was born into a family of cooks in the countryside of Florence, Italy. His original name was Carlo Lorenzini, and "Collodi" was his pen name, derived from the name of the town where his mother was born and raised. Pinocchio and The Adventures of Pinocchio, its protagonist is the puppet Pinocchio. Pinocchio was created by a kind old carpenter and, after experiencing a series of adventures—such as being imprisoned by the puppet theater owner, being tempted by a fox and a cat, and going on a journey of fun—finally rescued his father, the old carpenter, who had been swallowed by a giant fish. In the end, Pinocchio became a real boy.
