Bai Maren (1626-1705), originally named Zhu Da, was a descendant of Prince Ningxian of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Quan. After the Qing army entered the capital and his family fell into ruin, he shaved his head and became a monk. In his later years, he returned to secular life. He dedicated his life to studying flowers-and-birds painting and landscape painting, becoming a master of painting in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, with a profound influence on later generations. His brushwork is heavy yet refined, ink colors are lustrous and subtle, his artistic style is majestic, ethereal, and extraordinary, leaving a lasting impression.
Bai Maren left behind many classic works. For example, in "River Flowers" (He Shang Hua Tu), the composition is dense yet balanced, with bold brushwork and a grand, expansive. In "Fish and Bird Painting" (Yu Niao Tu), the figures are exaggerated and transformed, unforgettable and transcending mere imagery.
This book selects classic works by Bai Maren, each accompanied by detailed information such as the title, appreciation, creation date, material, dimensions, technique, collector, and influence index, making it extremely valuable. The album features an innovative binding and exquisite text. The introductory section "Exploring Chinese Painting" also provides readers with knowledge about Chinese painting, including its techniques, appreciation, and collection, as well as how to use this book.
