The features of this textbook are as follows:
1. This teaching material is suitable for students majoring in music education, vocal music, and related singing disciplines for sight-singing training with lyrics. Sight-singing of songs in treble clef can be practiced after acquiring a certain foundation in sight-singing. Compared to sight-singing of songs in simple notation, sight-singing of songs in treble clef is more challenging. Therefore, it is recommended to strengthen the training of sight-singing in treble clef as early as possible, provided the teaching schedule allows.
5. The textbook follows the traditional sequence of starting with keys without accidentals and gradually increasing to three accidentals. Each chapter is also arranged in an order of increasing difficulty. The compilation of the textbook takes into account both fixed-do and movable-do solfege methods. Unlike other sight-singing textbooks, while the content is also selected from excellent song works, it avoids songs that are very familiar to the public, which is more beneficial for improving sight-singing skills.
3. The teaching methods for sight-singing in treble clef songs are the same as those for sight-singing in simple notation, namely:
① Using solfege to perceive pitch, then adding lyrics for practice.
② Using humming to perceive pitch, then adding lyrics for practice.
③ Silent singing of the melody, incorporating the practice of singing lyrics.
④ Singing lyrics directly while perceiving pitch. Other training methods can also be adopted, such as: ignoring rhythm—i.e., using equal time values for pitch and practicing with lyrics; and ignoring pitch—reciting the rhythm and time values of the song with lyrics. Among these, ④ is the goal of sight-singing training for songs. This feature emphasizes the early preparation of inner hearing—before singing the lyrics, inner hearing should first perceive the pitch of the melody, which is a crucial skill for sight-singing of songs. Silent singing of the melody with lyrics is also a method to train this ability.
4. It should be noted that sight-singing in treble clef, like other forms of sight-singing, is not merely a practice in reading music. The essence of sight-singing of songs lies in how to correctly express the pitch, rhythm, tempo, and emotion of the music while singing the lyrics, and to gain an appreciation for the song through this method.
