Features: Monetary Banking is a professional foundational theory course that studies the various elements and their relationships and operational principles in the field of money and finance. As Monetary Banking is a core course for economic and financial majors in China's higher education institutions, there are many versions of textbooks for this course. However, most of these versions are primarily targeted at junior college and undergraduate students who are and learning about financial issues. Economic and financial majors are currently popular fields in Chinese universities, with enrollment numbers increasing rapidly in recent years. In some institutions, the number of graduate students has even surpassed that of undergraduates. Therefore, in the teaching process, how to reasonably plan the curriculum content for both undergraduate and graduate students while appropriately bridging the gap between them is a consideration that should be addressed. This textbook attempts to tackle this issue. It is suitable for graduate students (including part-time graduate students) and senior undergraduate students in economic and financial majors, as well as for researchers and practitioners in the financial sector. To study this textbook, the following knowledge is assumed as prerequisite:
1. Economic knowledge, including basic knowledge of political economy and Western economics, such as labor value theory, reproduction theory, production functions, and basic macroeconomic models.
2. Financial knowledge, including basic knowledge of monetary banking, international finance, and financial markets, such as the fundamental theories of interest rates and exchange rates, the types and functions of financial institutions, and the composition and classification of financial markets.
3. Mathematical knowledge, including basic knowledge of calculus, linear algebra, and probability theory.
This textbook was uniformly designed by Dr. Du Jinfu of the People's Bank of China and written by him for Chapters 1 to 3. The remaining chapters were authored by the following: Guo Tianyong (Associate Professor and Ph.D. in Economics at the Central University of Finance and Economics) wrote Chapters 4 and 5; Cao Haizhen (Ph.D. in Economics at the People's Bank of China) wrote Chapters 6 and 8; Li Wenhua (Ph.D. in Economics at China Minsheng Bank) wrote Chapter 7; Yu Longwu (Ph.D. in Economics at the China Banking Regulatory Commission) wrote Chapter 9; Zhang Hongdi (Postdoctoral Researcher at the People's Bank of China) wrote Chapters 10 and 11; Xiong Lianhua (Master of Economics at the People's Bank of China) wrote Chapter 12; and Huang Jinlao (Ph.D. in Economics at China Bank) wrote Chapters 13 and 14. The entire book was revised and edited by Du Jinfu and Guo Tianyong.
During the writing process, this book referred to a large number of domestic and international literature, materials, textbooks, and monographs. Li Xiaodong, Guilin, Jin Yi, Xiao Yan, Chen Jia, Wang Yangyang, and Zhu Gan provided assistance from various perspectives. Ms. Zhang Zhihui of the China Financial Publishing House put in hard work for the publication of this book. We sincerely express our gratitude to all of them.
