Features: Why do office romances often occur? Can the one closest to the water get the moon first? Because, the law of universal gravitation tells us that the force between two objects is inversely proportional to the square of the distance. What about love? There are physics principles in love. Peng Huixian, who loves physics, has taken a unique path in the journey of "talking about love and affection," interpreting love phenomena with physics formulas. This revelation makes it clear that love is an application problem of physics formulas. If he loves you? If she doesn’t love you? Lovers reading this book might as well bring a pen, think together, and calculate how much love is in your relationship.
In my youth, I loved poetry, and recently, I’ve become fascinated with physics. What happens when these two things are combined? That’s how this book came to be. Du Fu once wrote: "To carefully explore the laws of nature is to enjoy life; why rely on fleeting fame to bind this life?" When you think deeply about life, it’s truly just a game. I have a favorite term: "serious play," which means taking play seriously. The poems in this book are those I’ve read in the past, and I can still remember them after all these years, showing the immense power of poetry. As the saying goes, "Children who learn the piano don’t go astray," and perhaps I could adapt this to say: "Children who read poetry aren’t afraid of loneliness." As Zhu Xi said, "To be as clear as still water, one must draw from the living source." I wholeheartedly agree with him, which is why I still love poetry.
When it comes to the principles of love, everyone has their own script. The love story between Lord Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan, "A Walk to Remember," is titled "Proof of Life" in English, explaining the essence of love. I hope that the 50 physics principles and 50 poems in this book will also witness the trials and tribulations of your own journey.
"Love + Physics Formulas + Chinese Poetry"? Hey! I don’t think anyone has ever tried this before! So, I sincerely thank China Times for taking a risk on publishing this playful work. I also thank editor Ding Xiru for patiently urging the manuscript along—such an EQ-friendly editor is rare. I feel ashamed for delaying the submission. As the poem goes, "Dreams of distant partings are hard to awaken, and books are finished before the ink is yet thick." Every book is an unfinished beginning, because the author always has a dream of realization in their heart—thank you for joining me in this journey of dreams.
Here’s a small request: if you’re willing, bring a pen while reading this book, because sometimes physics formulas need to be calculated!
