This book fills readers' hearts with both pain and warmth, making them smile and feel sorrowful. The dramatic story and profound, delicate writing style are the reasons it has been adapted into stage and screen productions worldwide. The story tells of Charlie Gordon, who suffers from congenital intellectual disability and faces coldness from his parents, as well as unfair treatment from society. However, his innocent and kind nature leads him to believe the world is wonderful, and he treats his bullying coworkers at the bakery as friends. He realizes he is not smart enough to meet his mother's expectations, so he becomes the subject of an experiment by two scientists, alongside the true experimental mouse—Algernon. Together, they undergo brain surgery. Gordon gradually becomes a genius, but his life falls from the clouds into a dark abyss—filled with anxiety, unease, narrow-mindedness, and suspicion. He discovers that the real world is so ugly and that human nature is not always sincere and pure. His sensitive thoughts bring him wisdom but also entangled pain. This incomplete experiment ultimately fails. When Gordon's intelligence reaches its peak, he understands that the experiment was bound to fail. Through various emotional turns, he strives to find the cause. After successfully completing the research on this failed experiment, his intelligence gradually declines, returning to his original state—a heart-wrenching simplicity!
