Features: With the continuous improvement of college foreign language teaching standards, the starting point for postgraduate foreign language learning has also been rising year by year. The National College English Teaching Syllabus and the Postgraduate English Teaching Syllabus have been successively revised. In response to the specific needs of postgraduate public English teaching in the 21st century, the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) conducted extensive and in-depth research across the country, listened to the advice of English teaching experts and scholars in China, and, after carefully analyzing the current state of postgraduate English teaching, meticulously planned and organized more than ten key universities such as Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Shandong University, Sun Yat-sen University, Dalian University of Technology, and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics to launch the "New Century Postgraduate Public English Textbooks." The entire series of textbooks will be published in batches from the first half of 2002 to the end of the year.
The "New Century Postgraduate Public English Textbooks" have the following main features in their design:
? Exercise design and activity arrangements are centered on successful learning, emphasizing the cultivation of applied skills.
? Given the declining listening and speaking abilities of postgraduates, oral and listening skills are given special attention.
? The text materials and genres are diverse and up-to-date.
? Emphasis is placed on translation and writing skills (especially academic writing).
? While highlighting lexical and syntactic knowledge, teaching on textual coherence is also integrated.
