In the year 1999, a giant alien spaceship crashed onto Macross Island on Earth. Ten years later, the spaceship was transformed into a space fortress and joined the Earth's military. On its first voyage, the Zentradi fleet invaded the solar system, and the Second Robotech War broke out! Under the command of Captain Glover, the Super Dimension Fortress fought a bloody battle against five million alien warships! Young pilot Rick Hunter grew rapidly through the trials of blood and fire, while also falling in love with singer Lin Minmei and his superior, Lisa Hayes.
During direct contact with the Zentradi, Rick discovered their survival philosophy of living only for war. He also found their abnormal reactions to human emotions. Meanwhile, the Zentradi developed a strong interest in Earth's civilization, beginning to admire Lin Minmei's songs and longing for Earth's way of life. More and more Zentradi refused to continue the endless war.
When the Zentradi ace pilot Miria Pallyno met, fell in love with, and eventually married the Earth military ace pilot Max Sterling in the war, the two civilizations finally sparked beautiful sparks. Faced with this situation, the Zentradi leaders were furious, mobilizing all their warships to destroy Earth. With a resolute determination to die, the Super Dimension Fortress took to the skies to confront them.
