The core of the sustainable development strategy is the coordination of economic development with the protection of resources and ecological environment, aiming to ensure that future generations can enjoy abundant resources and a sound natural environment. Based on the requirements of national economic construction and social development, and starting from China's actual conditions, the China Society for Sustainable Development has continuously advocated the use of science and technology to promote the coordinated development of economy, society, population, resources, and environment in China. To contribute to the implementation of China's sustainable development strategy, the establishment of a resource-saving and environment-friendly society, and the realization of the goal of a moderately prosperous society in all respects, we have made our efforts. To further promote the concept of sustainable development and exchange the latest research findings in the field, the "2005 China Sustainable Development Forum—2005 Academic Annual of the China Society for Sustainable Development" was specially held in Shanghai in September 2005. The annual meeting was themed around "Green GDP and Scientific Development Outlook," "Circular Economy and Sustainable Development," and "Education for Sustainable Development," featuring academic exchanges through keynote speeches and five parallel forums. During the conference, renowned experts from China and abroad delivered insightful keynote speeches on the aforementioned themes. The five parallel forums were "Green GDP," "Circular Economy," "Education, Humanities, and Sustainable Development," "Environmental Protection Technology," and the "University Student Forum," specially designed to encourage broad participation from young students. This proceedings is composed of 239 selected papers from the academic annual, divided into two volumes. The first volume primarily contains research findings in the fields of Green GDP and Circular Economy, while the second volume mainly focuses on Environmental Protection Technology and Education, Humanities, and Sustainable Development. Most of these papers are based on the authors' years of research in the field, covering the research content of the aforementioned areas and reflecting the hot and key issues in this field both domestically and internationally. Most of the papers are highly targeted, with substantial research data, novel content, clear concepts and perspectives, and creative research methods. Some macro-level and policy-oriented papers provide valuable references for government decision-making. We sincerely thank all the experts and scholars for their support of this annual meeting. A total of more than 300 papers were submitted, but due to the limited space of the proceedings, many excellent papers that passed the initial selection could not be included. We apologize to all the authors for this. We hope this proceedings will provide useful insights and references for researchers. The review and selection of this proceedings were carried out by Ma Limin, Zhang Xuanjun, Qiu Shoufeng, Chai Shiwei, Zhang Hongen, Zhang Zhibin, Lin Jianwei, Huang Yanan, Huang You, and Zhang Ming. The proceedings also received strong support and assistance from experts at the China Society for Sustainable Development and Tongji University, including Guo Risheng, Wang Kaiyue, Chen Kun, Zhou Qi, Zhang Yalei, Li Fengting, and Zhu Dajian. The proceedings were also greatly supported by Tongji University Press during the publication process. We extend our gratitude in this regard. Due to the urgency of time, if there are any shortcomings in this proceedings, we welcome readers' criticism and corrections.
