Features: Preface in English Today, one of the greatest challenges facing the United States is the manufacturing industry. Computer technology has already transformed the manufacturing landscape to a great extent, with the design, analysis, and production of products now fully digitized. The evolving manufacturing industry requires well-trained technical personnel, and vocational education is considered a continuous and long-term investment. The 3rd edition of Fundamentals of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machining has been expanded and improved upon the original version. Chapter 16 now includes an example of creating and simulating machining programs using Mastercam software. Finally, the accompanying CD-ROM includes verification software and tutorials for CNC machining applications in the manufacturing field. This software features real-time, solid-model simulation of cutting processes and allows measurement of simulated workpieces. Readers can use it to write, verify milling address-programmed code, and simulate machining. The book’s features include:
- Each chapter includes learning objectives and summaries.
- The illustrations help students deepen their understanding and retention of the content.
- Key and important points are highlighted using callout boxes.
- Flowcharts introduce the workflow of CNC workshops.
- Numerous images are used to illustrate the workflow of CNC workshops.
- Important machining setup information is explained through multiple programming examples.
- Basic word-address programming (G, M codes) is emphasized.
- Industry-standard methods and terminology are highlighted in programming examples.
- Each example program includes an explanation of all program content.
- The book introduces example programs using the concept of program patterns, demonstrating combinations of statements for different stages of machining, such as statement combination A for CNC machine initialization and statement combination B for tool changing.
- Each chapter includes carefully crafted review questions.
- Programming exercises provide machining content, tool specifications, machining parameters, workpiece conditions, and clamping methods.
- The book focuses on the most commonly used FANUC system in practical work.
- The appendix contains valuable information for students, including safety precautions, a list of G, M function codes for turning and milling programming, and recommended machining parameters for milling and turning.
- The book includes a glossary of CNC programming terminology.
- The accompanying verification software allows students to observe the results of word-address programs in action.
This book is suitable for multi-level teaching:
- Vocational and technical colleges;
- Secondary/technical schools;
- Industrial training centers.
It can also be used for:
- One or two-semester vocational training;
- Manual programming training in CNC programming;
- On-the-job training;
- Reference material for self-study.
This book is the result of years of teaching CNC machining courses to students and engineering technicians at Queensborough Community College. Through teaching, we found that many textbooks were too general or overly focused on specific aspects. Therefore, we gradually compiled teaching materials, tested, and improved them in practice, with significant support from colleagues in production and teaching. The writing of this book is based on in-depth research into production practices, and the example programs have been verified. It must be emphasized that when students operate CNC machines, they must strictly adhere to the corresponding safety precautions.
