How can candidiasis be controlled

Patient's question:

Got a fungal vaginal infection (also known as candidiasis), are there any treatment methods? I want something simple that I can do at home myself.

Doctor's answer:

Vaginal candidiasis can be treated by rinsing the external genitalia and vagina with alkaline solutions such as 2~4% sodium bicarbonate or soapy water to alter the vaginal pH, making it less conducive to the growth of fungi. After rinsing, insert nystatin tablets or suppositories into the vagina, with a dosage of 100,000~200,000 units each time, once nightly, for a course of 10~14 days. Additionally, apply 3% miconazole cream to the external genitalia for better results. For persistent cases, oral itraconazole or fluconazole can be taken to eliminate intestinal candidiasis, or topical miconazole can be used. During treatment, sexual intercourse should be avoided, and underwear should be changed, washed, and boiled daily. After one course of treatment, a fungal test should show negative results. Subsequent follow-up tests should also be negative after each menstrual cycle. Continuous consolidation treatment for three additional courses is required to confirm cure. It is recommended that the male partner also undergo treatment. Shoes and socks should be washed separately from underwear. Condoms are advisable during sexual activity.
