Features: Birds are friends of humans. With the continuous improvement of material and cultural living standards and the growing awareness of nature conservation, people are increasingly valuing urban ecological construction. As we stroll through green spaces, parks, rural areas, and tidal flats, we notice that birds are getting closer to us, and the variety of bird species is also becoming richer. Many citizens have spontaneously started to step out of their homes to admire the diverse birds in nature. In light of this, the Shanghai Wildlife Conservation Association established the Bird Professional Committee in 2004, aiming to raise public awareness of bird love and protection, carry out bird conservation campaigns, and organize planned bird-watching activities for citizens. To provide bird enthusiasts with a more targeted bird identification guide for field observations in Shanghai and its surrounding areas, we selected 222 common bird species and key bird species in Shanghai based on nearly a decade of observation records and literature. This bird identification guide was compiled accordingly. We sincerely hope that the publication of this book will attract more people to join the cause of bird conservation and attention to birds. We also hope that this book can serve as a reference for professional bird researchers during field surveys.
