Features: With the increasing application of the internet in education, research on online teaching and learning has grown rapidly. The research content has evolved from simply using online tools like email in teaching to studying online learning environments and developing online teaching systems. The methods have also shifted from purely empirical summaries to more rational and reflective approaches. Overall, current research on online education primarily focuses on four areas: the study of online learning environments and their effectiveness, the development of online teaching systems, learning and teaching models in online learning environments, and policies for online education applications. This book compiles 11 papers, carefully selected from over 100 articles, each representing a significant aspect of the aforementioned four areas. These papers were mostly published in influential international educational technology journals and conference proceedings, with original publication dates around 2000. As China's education informatization process accelerates, projects like the "Modern Distance Education Project" and the "Schools Connected Project" have entered critical phases. We hope this compilation will provide Chinese readers with a general understanding of the current state of international online education research, offering a reference for China's own online education research. This book includes 11 representative papers on online education published in recent years. These 11 articles cover research on online learning environments, the effectiveness of online learning, strategies and policies for using the internet in teaching at primary and secondary schools, and cultural perspectives in online education. Most of the papers are based on empirical research, exploring and investigating the teaching and learning environments, teacher-student interaction processes, online courses, and teaching design in online education. This enables domestic researchers to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current state and development trends in the field of international online education. The readership of this book includes undergraduate and graduate students in educational technology, as well as professionals and teachers engaged in educational technology research.
