Features: Antoni Gaudí i Cornet was born on June 25, 1852, in Reus. His father was Francisco Gaudí i Cornet, and his mother was Antonia Cornet i Bertran. He studied at a church school in Reus, and after 10 years, in 1873, he went to the Scientific Faculty of the University of Barcelona to study architecture. He completed his studies in January 1878 and received his diploma on March 15, 1878. Even as an architecture student, Gaudí, like others, had already started working in an architect's studio. For example, in the workshop of Joseph Puig i Cadafalch, he assisted in completing one of the great designs later built in Barcelona—the Parc de la Ciutadella. His first independent work was the lamp posts for the Pla?a Llànquers project and the lighting system for the Muralla de Mar project. Both projects were located in Barcelona and were carried out in collaboration with workers from Martorell. There were also unfinished designs that underwent multiple revisions, such as the Bishop's Cathedral in Astorga and the apartment building in León, which the world calls the "House of the Jewels." After returning to Barcelona in 1883, recommended by the architect Joan Martorell, Gaudí took over the partially completed Basilica of the Sagrada Família. At this moment in his career, Gaudí began to change the design concept of this project.
