How long does it take to treat vaginitis

Patient's question:

How long does vaginitis take to heal? I have been treating vaginitis for a course of treatment, but why is it still itchy down there? Is there a problem with my constitution? Why does it stop itching after using it for three or four days?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, it is recommended to rinse the external genitalia and vagina with an alkaline solution such as 2~4% sodium bicarbonate or soap water to alter the vaginal pH, making it less conducive to the growth of fungi. After rinsing, insert Nystatin tablets or suppositories into the vagina, with a dosage of 100,000~200,000 units each time, once nightly, for a course of 10~14 days. Apply 3% miconazole cream to the external genitalia afterward for better results. For persistent cases, oral ketoconazole or clotrimazole can be taken to eliminate intestinal candidiasis, or miconazole can be used topically. During treatment, sexual intercourse should be avoided, and underwear should be changed, washed, and boiled daily. After completing one course of treatment, a fungal test should show negative results. Subsequent fungal tests should also be negative after each menstrual cycle. Three consecutive consolidation courses are required to consider the condition cured. It is best for the male partner to undergo treatment as well. Shoes and socks should be washed separately from underwear. Condoms are recommended during intercourse.
