Zhang Wentian was an outstanding proletarian revolutionary and Marxist thinker in contemporary China. He served as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China during a period of great turning points in the history of the Chinese Revolution and the destiny of the Chinese nation. Throughout his life, he pursued and upheld truth, and as an exceptional intellectual pioneer in the Communist Party of China's exploration of the path to revolution and construction, he left behind a rich spiritual legacy for future generations. This album was compiled based on the "Zhang Wentian" pictorial published by the History Press of the Communist Party of China in 1990, which was approved by the Central Committee. Since the publication of that pictorial, 15 years have passed, during which time new and valuable images and documents of Zhang Wentian have been continuously collected. This year marks the 105th anniversary of Zhang Wentian's birth. With the support of the Pudong New Area of Shanghai, the hometown of Zhang Wentian, this group has been working on supplementing and revising the original pictorial since last year, preparing for a revised and expanded edition. After a year of effort, this book has not only added and replaced a large number of images but also includes substantial textual supplements, making it a new pictorial that reflects years of research and has a style different from the original. Therefore, instead of a revised edition, it is titled "Zhang Wentian Album."
This album includes 483 images, of which 211 are newly added and 37 are updated. On many pages, selected insightful remarks by Zhang Wentian himself are also included. With these new materials and necessary image captions, this album is expected to further showcase the brilliant life of Zhang Wentian. The album is divided into 10 parts, with the first 9 parts arranged according to major stages in Zhang Wentian's life, and each part is accompanied by a chronology. The 10th part, "Remembrance and Legacy," records images of the commemorative activities and publications of Zhang Wentian's posthumous works after his passing.
