Features: Eugenie Grandet is one of the most vivid and dynamic works in Balzac's satirical oeuvre. The desire for money extinguished all human emotions in old Grandet and also extinguished the love of the innocent and kind Miss Eugenie. When the first draft of this book was completed, the author confidently declared to his sister: "I will dominate the literary world of Europe, and I will not face any setbacks! If I work hard for two more years, I will surpass everyone who tries to bind my hands and feet and hinder my progress!"
