How is a corpus luteum cyst treated?

Patient's question:

My body has been feeling very weak recently, with little energy, and my daily life has been disrupted. During my menstrual period, there was a significant amount of blood again. Besides the strong odor in the vagina, it was very painful. The doctor said I have a corpus luteum cyst. What kind of help is needed: What should I do about the corpus luteum cyst?

Doctor's answer:

Ovarian cysts can be physiological or pathological. Physiological cysts do not require surgery, while pathological cysts often need surgery for definitive diagnosis and additional treatment. For women of reproductive age, after discovering an ovarian cyst, the next course of action depends on the nature of the cyst. Ultrasound results are very helpful for diagnosis. If MRI suggests the cyst is anechoic (without echoes) and non-segmented, it is advisable to wait and see for 3 months. After 3 months, a repeat MRI should be performed. If the cyst still exists, surgery should be considered for resolution. For other types of cysts, most are pathological and should be surgically diagnosed.
