Cheng Xiaobo's hometown is Nanyuan Village in Zhangcun Town, located at the foot of Huaiyushan. Since childhood, he had heard adults talk about a Red Army unit that once came to the nearby Huaiyushan, with its leader being Fang Zhi Minhui. Starting in 1999, he embarked on his "Journey of Frugality Across Ten Thousand Li," funding his own trip. From the place where Fang Zhi Minhui was captured—Longshou in Yushan—through four years of arduous and rainy journeys, he overcame various difficulties and traveled across the areas where Fang Zhi Minhui had established and developed the revolutionary bases in northern Jiangxi, the Fujian-Zhejiang-Jiangxi Revolutionary Base, and the Anti-Japanese Advance Corps' battlefields, collecting a wealth of materials. He extensively interviewed elderly participants in the revolutionary struggles who were still alive at the time, listening to their firsthand accounts and stories they had heard or witnessed. Based on this, he meticulously wrote this battle chronicle, Bloodstained Return: Fang Zhi Minhui and the Anti-Japanese Advance Corps, recreating the spirit of countless revolutionary predecessors, including Fang Zhi Minhui and his comrades, who, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, bravely advanced, sacrificed, and persevered for the independence and liberation of the Chinese nation.
